The Technology Management and Innovation Awards recognize outstanding innovation that drives transformation and contributes to the revitalization of Japan’s economy. Established in 2012, the awards aim to promote innovation by highlighting exemplary cases that industry professionals can learn from.
Award Recognition
B dot Medical has developed, manufactures, and markets Phemto®, a proton cancer therapy system that significantly reduces size and installation costs. Traditional proton therapy systems require a massive gantry structure comparable in size to a three-story building. By utilizing superconducting magnet technology, B dot Medical has successfully downsized this system to just one-third of the conventional size in height, making proton therapy more accessible.
Proton therapy is recognized for its effectiveness in cancer treatment while reducing damage to surrounding healthy tissues and organs. However, the high cost and space requirements of traditional systems have limited widespread adoption. The innovative ultra-compact design of Phemto® is expected to accelerate the expansion of proton therapy treatment worldwide, a key factor in the company’s award recognition.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Josui Kaikan in Chiyoda, Tokyo.
