B dot Medical and Furukawa Electric Sign MOU for Strategic Collaboration in Particle Therapy Systems

B dot Medical Inc. (Headquarters: Edogawa-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Takuji Furukawa; hereinafter “B dot Medical”) and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President, Director & CEO: Hideya Moridaira; hereinafter “Furukawa Electric”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic collaboration on July 15, 2026.

Left: Cancer therapy device Right: High-temperature superconducting cables (Left side) and low-temperature superconducting cables (Right side)

B dot Medical is a medical device startup engaged in the development, manufacturing, and sales of ultra-compact proton therapy systems. Furukawa Electric Group is a world-leading supplier of superconductivity technology, offering both low-temperature and high-temperature superconducting cables. Through its U.S. subsidiary, SuperPower Inc., the group is advancing the development and commercialization of high-temperature superconducting cables across the healthcare, energy, and research sectors.

The purpose of this basic agreement is to integrate B dot Medical’s system design technologies for particle therapy (proton and heavy-ion) with Furukawa Electric’s advanced superconducting cable technology, thereby achieving higher functionality, downsizing, and reduced power consumption for key components in particle therapy systems, with the objective of accelerating the early widespread adoption of this highly competitive and marketable system.

Depending on the progress of initiatives under this basic agreement, both companies will continue discussions regarding the supply of superconducting cables for the mass production of the system, and the establishment of a long-term cooperative relationship. Through these efforts, both companies will contribute to the widespread adoption and advancement of next-generation cancer treatment infrastructure.
